Czech Sport Horse and Slovak Warmblood in the Czech Republic

Slovak Warmblood in the Czech Republic

The studbook for the Slovak Warmblood population bred in the Czech Republic is, alongside the Czech Warmblood, the second studbook dedicated to the breeding of warmblood horses in the Czech Republic. It was founded in 1995 based on the authorization of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic within the framework of Act No. 241/91 Coll., which recognized two named warmblood horse breeds in the Czech Republic: the Czech Warmblood and the Slovak Warmblood. Hence the name Slovak Warmblood (CS). Since May 2002, the studbook (PK) CS has been managed by the recognized breeders' association, the Association of CS Breeders in the Czech Republic, based on the authorization of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic, and according to its own Studbook Regulations and Breeding Program. The CS Studbook, like the ČT Studbook, is a full-fledged studbook in the Czech Republic, managed according to its own approved program.

The main reason for establishing the CS Studbook was the effort to offer breeders an alternative horse breeding program and to introduce an element of competition into the breeding process, which can certainly be a source of progress. The aim is to strengthen breeders' competitiveness and pride, motivate breeders, and expand the scope for breeders to express their own opinions. The Slovak Warmblood has much in common with the Czech Warmblood, including a similar breeding objective, method of performance testing, and also breeding animals (stallions and mares), many of which are registered in both studbooks. What differs is the breeding program, its preferences, and the methods used to achieve the breeding objective. The registration of mares into the CS Studbook is carried out by CS Studbook inspectors. The registration and identification of foals are carried out exclusively by CS Studbook inspectors.

Horse breeding has many prerequisites to become a well-prospering sector of agricultural production in the Czech Republic under the conditions of the common European agricultural policy. Let us therefore hope that the new model for organizing the breeding of the warmblood horse population in our country will truly lead to healthy competition, and not to quarrels and mutual accusations, which, unfortunately, are not uncommon to our detriment.

Establishment of the Czech Sport Horse in the Czech Republic

The designation CS (C – Czech, S – Sport) horse. However, the name of our breeders' association is changing to Association of CS Horses Breeders in the Czech Republic, reg. assoc.
