Mares are entered into the studbook according to the Studbook Regulations of the Czech Sport Horse and the decisions of the Studbook Council.
The basic condition for entry is that the mare is properly identified, has documented parentage, and meets the rules for inclusion in the relevant studbook class.
Czech Sport Horse mares are automatically entered into Class III of the main section of the studbook at three years of age. This entry follows their previous registration in the foal book. The purpose of automatic entry is to transfer mares from the foal book to the studbook upon reaching the specified age and to ensure clear record-keeping of the population maintained in the studbook.
However, automatic entry into Class III does not replace the mare's own evaluation. To be included in higher studbook classes, an exterior evaluation and linear description are necessary. The entry of a mare into the appropriate studbook class is an important part of the breeding program and is a condition for the registration of her progeny in the Czech Sport Horse studbook.
Entry into higher studbook classes is made upon the request of the mare's owner. Evaluations primarily take place at mare shows, performance tests, or at testing or breeding facilities. By prior arrangement, evaluations can also be conducted individually at the mare's stable.
The entry includes an exterior evaluation and linear description, performed by an authorized evaluator. Based on the achieved results and the fulfillment of specified conditions, the mare is assigned to the corresponding studbook class.
The entry of mares serves not only to register breeding mares but also to control heredity and monitor the development of the breeding population. Information obtained during mare evaluations and subsequently data on their progeny represent an important basis for genetic evaluation, estimation of breeding values, and further breeding work.
Mares are primarily entered into the studbook in the calendar year in which they reach three years of age or more. In particularly justified cases, especially within individual breeding programs, mares of a younger age can also be entered into the studbook.
When entering a mare, it is essential to present the horse's passport. Furthermore, performance test results or other documents that may influence the mare's classification into individual studbook classes can be submitted.
For mares registered in another recognized studbook, a previously performed exterior evaluation may be accepted. The transfer of scores is done based on the form “Application for entry of mare(s) into the Czech Sport Horse Studbook (PK CS)”, which can be found here. If the mare meets the conditions set by the Studbook Regulations, she can be assigned to the corresponding studbook class based on these results without the need for repeated evaluation.
Owners of mares that have not yet been evaluated and assigned to a higher studbook class can request an evaluation at one of the mare shows or another approved date. By prior arrangement, evaluations can also be conducted individually at the mare's stable.
