To use a stallion or his semen doses in the breeding of the Czech Sport Horse, it is necessary to meet the conditions set by the breeding program of the CS Studbook and the valid legislation of the Czech Republic.
Central Register of Breeding Stallions
In the Czech Republic, only breeding stallions or their semen that are registered in the Central Register of Breeding Stallions (ÚRP), maintained in accordance with the breeding law, may be used for breeding.
This obligation applies to stallions physically operating in the Czech Republic, as well as to foreign stallions used through imported semen doses. Registration in the ÚRP is a legal condition for the use of a stallion or his semen in breeding.
For registration in the ÚRP, it is necessary to submit documents stipulated by valid legislation. For stallions from domestic breeding, this primarily includes proof of selection of the breeding stallion with a positive selection result, a certificate of genetic type determination, and a zootechnical certificate or proof of origin. For foreign stallions and imported semen doses, similar documents issued by the relevant foreign breeding organization are required.
However, registration in the ÚRP itself does not automatically mean approval of the stallion or his semen doses for use in the Czech Sport Horse Studbook.
Stallions Operating in the Czech Republic
For a stallion to be used in the breeding of the Czech Sport Horse Studbook, he must first meet the conditions set by the breeding program. These conditions can be met by the stallion in various ways, for example, by completing performance tests, achieving sports performance, or approval in another recognized studbook.
After fulfilling the set conditions, the stallion must be registered in the Czech Sport Horse Studbook. A one-time fee is charged for the registration of a stallion in the studbook. The stallion's registration then remains valid for the entire period of his maintenance in the studbook and does not need to be repeated.
However, the registration of a stallion in the studbook is not identical to the breeding permit. If a stallion is to be used in breeding within the Czech Sport Horse Studbook in a specific year, it is necessary to apply annually for a breeding permit and pay the corresponding fee. The breeding permit is always issued for one calendar year.
The fee amount is:
Application submitted by March 31
SCHCS member: 1,000 CZK
Non-SCHCS member: 2,000 CZK
Application submitted after March 31
SCHCS member: 2,000 CZK
Non-SCHCS member: 3,000 CZK
After payment of the breeding permit, the owner or keeper of the stallion will receive a covering register for the respective covering season. The covering register serves to record coverings and inseminations and is an essential document for the registration of foals born.
Imported Semen Doses
Imported semen doses from foreign stallions are subject to approval by the Czech Sport Horse Studbook Council.
An application for registration of a semen dose can be submitted via the online form available above the list of approved semen doses in the studbook or using the form published on the website in the Documents section → Forms for download.
The applicant is only required to submit an application, which serves to identify the stallion and allows the Studbook Council to assess whether the semen dose can be included in the breeding of the Czech Sport Horse.
Once approved, no further administrative steps are required. The Association of CS Horse Breeders in the Czech Republic, z.s. will ensure registration in the Central Register of Breeding Stallions, communication with the Central Horse Register, and the provision of necessary documents for registration in the ÚRP.
After approval and registration in the studbook, the semen dose can be used by all breeders within the Czech Sport Horse Studbook. Approval is a one-time process and is not associated with an annual payment for a breeding permit.
